HOUGHTON — A Wisconsin man has been declared competent to stand trial for the December murder of a Hancock Township man. Jacob Kempainen, 21, of Hartland, is accused of fatally shooting his grandfather, Alvin Kempainen. The 86-year-old was found dead of a gunshot wound on Dec. 19. He and his mother, Margaret Kempainen, were later arrested in Iowa. Both are charged with homicide - open murder and conspiracy to commit open murder and potentially face life sentences.
