Crash in Hubbell: Car strikes power pole, hits building

At 3:07 a.m. Thursday morning, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single-vehicle personal injury accident that occurred on M-26 in Hubbell, near 12th Street, according to a release from that department.

A car driven by a Lake Linden woman lost control while traveling westbound and struck a power line pole, knocking it down. Eyewitnesses reported the vehicle glanced off the pole and struck a building, which sustained minor damage.

The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was transported by Mercy Ambulance to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, the release states. As the accident is still under investigation, the driver’s name is not being released.

The Houghton County Sheriffs deputies were assisted at the scene by the Hubbell Fire Department, various first responders, Mercy Ambulance, Superior Service and the Upper Peninsula Power Company.
