Hearing in Court: Defendants hear drug charges
HOUGHTON — Two suspects in a drug bust in Lake Linden appeared for pre-trial hearings in Houghton County Circuit Court Monday.
Breon Garner, 26, of Detroit, and Willie Nelson, 48, of Lake Linden, had their pretrials continued to May 31.
Garner and Nelson were among four people arrested after an Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team action on March 16. UPSET detectives seized a small amount of heroin, cash from suspected drug sales and a loaded shotgun from a house on Calumet Street in Lake Linden.
Garner is charged with delivery/manufacture of less than 50 grams of a substance containing heroin, a 20-year felony.
Garner’s attorney, David Gemignani, said Garner has a preliminary hearing in 97th District Court in Baraga County on a similar charge.
“If we have any type of resolution, the earnest negotiation will begin over the course of next week or so after we have everything on the table that could possible be on the table,” he said.
Garner is scheduled to stand trial for two days starting July 20.
Willie Nelson is charged with maintaining a drug house, a two-year felony.
Prosecutor Michael Makinen asked for the additional pretrial. In the event a resolution is not reached, he said he would seek to amend the charges.
