Stop sign changes make Houghton Avenue a bike boulevard to be opened Sat. at Bridgefest

HOUGHTON — The Houghton Police Department reports several stop sign/intersection changes that will go into effect Wednesday. A resolution was recently passed allowing for changed on the Houghton Avenue Bike Boulevard to encourage the use of Houghton Avenue as an east/west route for bicyclists instead of using Montezuma Avenue. Anyone using Houghton Avenue or streets that intersect with Houghton Avenue, please pay attention.

Stop signs will be used on the following intersections:

1. Fifth Street

2. First Street.

3. Quincy Street.

4. Pewabic Street.

5. Ripley Street.

6. Prospect Street.

7. Emerald Street.

8. Pearl Street.

At Bridgefest on Saturday, Bike the Boulevard will be held to open the Houghton Avenue Bike Boulevard, a release from the Houghton Police Department stated. At 11 a.m. Saturday, Mayor Pro Tem Robert Megowen will lead the ride starting at the Ray Kestner Park. Free water bottles will be available while supplies last.
