Man, boy die in Trout Creek fire

Two Trout Creek residents were killed in a fire Sunday morning, according to a release by the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office.

David Saubert, 48, and David Saubert Jr., 6, were found within the home. No sheriff’s staff contacted Tuesday knew where the bodies were found within the home. which was a total loss from the fire.

Emergency services arrived on the scene at 6:38 a.m. following a call from a neighbor, according to sheriff’s deputy Carlo Pantti.

The home was engulfed in flames by the time the responding fire departments arrived on scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said sheriff’s deputy John Hasenberg Tuesday morning.

The location of where the fire started is also still under investigation.

The Ontonagon Sheriff’s Office responded to the fire along with the Trout Creek and Duncan township volunteer fire departments.

Also assisting at the scene were the Ontonagon County Victims Services Unit and a K-9 unit from the Michigan State Police.

The Michigan Fire Marshall’s Office is heading the investigation.
