Fatality in Baraga County crash

SIDNAW — A 73-year-old Baraga woman is dead as a result of a multiple vehicle crash on M-28 Friday at 1:45 p.m. according to a release from the Michigan State Police-Calumet Post.

According to the release, the woman was traveling westbound on M-28 and rearended a 2015 Toyota Highlander driven by a 59-year-old Eveleth, Minnesota, woman, who was stopped in the westbound lane for a temporary lane closure due to construction.

As a result of the crash, the Highlander then rearended a 2001 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by a 49-year-old Bad Axe, Michigan, man who was also stopped in the westbound lane for a temporary road closure.

M-28 was temporarily shut down as a result of the crash.

The 73-year-old woman was transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital by Bay EMS, where was later pronounced dead.

The other two drivers reported no injuries. The name of the woman is not being released at this time until next-of-kin can notified.

The MSP was assisted by Covington Township Fire Department, Duncan Township Fire Department, and Bay EMS.
