Baraga County Sheriff gives update
Baraga County Sheriff has released an update on Thursday morning’s accident that resulted in the death of a driver.
At 5:51 a.m., deputies responded to a head-on motor vehicle accident north of Menge Creek Road on U.S. 41, according to the press release. Lisa Zasadnyj, 37, of L’Anse was traveling southbound in a 2012 Toyota SUV when struck head on by a 2006 Nissan van being driven northbound by James Turriff, 31, also from L’Anse.
Turriff was pronounced dead at the scene. Zasadnyj was brought to Baraga County Memorial Hospital by Bay Ambulance with critical injuries.
Traffic in both directions on U.S. 41 was stopped until 9:50 a.m., when one lane was opened. Both lanes opened to travel at about 10:50 a.m.
The Baraga County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Baraga Village Police, L’Anse and Baraga Fire Departments and Bay Ambulance.
The crash is still under investigation.
