4 injured in crash

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP — A two-vehicle personal injury crash just north of the Denton Road Saturday evening sent four people to the hospital.

The accident occurred when an 89-year-old Mohawk man left a private driveway and pulled in front of a vehicle driven by a 35-year-old Hancock woman traveling south on U.S. 41, according to a release from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the crash at 7:20 p.m..

The Hancock woman had her two daughters in the vehicle. One of the girls had to be extracted from the vehicle by first responders from the Hurontown Fire and Rescue Department.

All four people involved in the crash were transported by Mercy Ambulance to Portage Health Systems – Hancock hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The 89-year-old Mohawk man was cited for failure to yield leaving a private driveway.

U.S. 41 north of Denton Road closed for a bit over an hour due to the crash.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by MTU Public Safety, Hurontown Fire and Rescue, Mercy Ambulance, and Superior Service.
