Calumet fire evacuates house occupants

CALUMET — Occupants were evacuated from a house on the 300 block of Seventh Street in Calumet Sunday morning after a fire spread from an abandoned church next door.

The fire was reported about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a release from the Calumet Police Department.

One woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The American Red Cross was contacted.

The Calumet Police Department was assisted by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Laurium Police Department, Michigan State Police Calumet Post, Calumet Fire Department, Calumet Township Fire Department, Laurium Fire Department, Ahmeek Fire Department, Mercy EMS, Semco Energy and Upper Peninsula Power Co.
