‘Big Latch On’ invites nursing moms to gather together
HANCOCK — All nursing moms are invited to join in the 2018 “Big Latch On,” a synchronized community breastfeeding event this Saturday, at the Jutila Center in Hancock.
The Big Latch On takes place at 10:30 a.m. and gives moms the chance to meet with other moms and help break the world record for the most women breastfeeding simultaneously. Participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes early to register and get settled in.
The Global Big Latch On takes place every August to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week. In 2005, Women’s Health Action held the first event in New Zealand to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding, encourage the formation of support networks between breastfeeding women and normalize breastfeeding as a part of daily life. Since its initiation, the community event has grown into a global phenomenon. In 2017, 17,990 children were breastfed across 725 locations in 23 countries.
The Jutila Center is located at 200 Michigan Street in Hancock. For more information, call Lindsay Jenson at 906.337.6085 or go online to https://biglatchon.org/.
