Fatal motorcycle-car crash at Chassell intersection
A vehicle being driven by Madeline Lehman, 17, of Houghton, was stopped on US 41 waiting to turn left onto Portage Entry Road when her vehicle was struck in the rear by a motorcycle. Mackenzie Roelse, 22, from Sheboygan, Wsconsin, was the driver of the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post. Roelse was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Roelse may have been distracted and did not see the vehicle stopped in front of her until it was too late to avoid the crash, the release stated. The release did not state whether Lehman was injured in the crash.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post are investigating the crash. They were assisted on the scene by the Houghton County Sheriff Department, Mercy Ambulance, Chassell Township First Responders, Chassell Township Fire Department and Superior Towing.
