Storm damages Calumet building
CALUMET – The severe storm that struck the area Thursday morning caused damage to a building in downtown Calumet.
Initial reports indicated the roof of the Aspirus At Home building, located on Sixth Street, had caved in due to heavy rain during the storm.
Cindy Griffin, a nurse at Aspirus At Home, said that while the building did sustain minor damage, the rumor was grossly exaggerated.
During the heavy rain, the roof did leak, allowing water to enter the building, causing a couple of ceiling tiles to become saturated and fall in, Griffin stated.
As a safety precaution, the Calumet Village fire department was called in to inspect the roof. In spite of a leak, Griffin said, the roof was found to be safe, and the building is otherwise undamaged.
