1 dead after snowmobile accident

ONTONAGON – An Iowa man died after hitting a tree while snowmobiling Wednesday evening in Rockland Township.

According to a release, the Ontonagon Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene where Bradley Allan Kuennen, 36, had crashed at about 10:35 p.m, along with the Rockland Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police Troopers and Sonco Ambulance.

County Undersheriff Gerald Balcomb said deputies believe Kuennen lost control of his snowmobile, fell off and struck a tree on either Trail No. 12 or Trail No. 13, where the trails run close together about one quarter mile south of Old Victoria Road.

Sonco EMTs performed CPR and transported Kuennen to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital. Balcomb was unsure at what point Kuennen was determined to be dead.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
