HANCOCK — The Copper Country Intermediate School District’s board voted to purchase a new school bus at a cost of $86,758.

“These are the state bids, so everybody in the state would get the same price on these buses in the state of Michigan,” George Stockero, CCISD superintendent said. “We have a bus that’s almost 20 years years old, and it’s time to get it replaced.”

The new bus is a 2018, 77-passenger IC bus from Zaremba Equipment, Inc. of Gaylord Michigan. It is a 2018, 77-passenger IC, diesel-powered bus with a wheel chair lift and antilock brakes.

The IC company constructs their bus chassis with an integrated steel cage and 16-gauge steel side sheets, increasing the safety of its passengers in the event of a collision or a crash, the IC company website states.

To reduce the cost of the unit, CCISD personnel selected options they felt necessary, and declined others they felt they did not need, Stockero said.

Stockero said the CCISD should take possession of the new bus in 0 to 12 weeks.
