Free snowmobile safety course offered

AHMEEK — The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office is offering a free snowmobile safety course from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Ahmeek village hall. At the end of the course, participants can earn a state snowmobile certification.

The course is limited to 25 students. Registration must be done by Jan. 18 by calling the KCSO at 337-0528.

Children from 12 to 17 years old must successfully complete a state of Michigan-approved snowmobile safety course if they will be operating a snowmobile without the direct supervision of a person 21 years old or older, or if they intend to cross a highway or street when riding. The certificate of completion must be in the operator’s possession when riding.

Lunch will be provided to the course students. The class is sponsored by the KCSO and members of the Ahmeek Fire Department.
