L’Anse School Board re-elects all but one

Vanessa Dietz/Daily Mining Gazette Former L’Anse Area Schools board Vice-President Jim Fedie nominated Joan Bugni to be the new vice-president.

L’ANSE – The L’Anse Area School Board re-elected all but one of its previous officers.

Jason Ayres will continue to serve as board president, Chris Collins will remain secretary and Anne Koski is still treasurer, the board decided Monday at its meeting.

Apparently stepping down, former Vice-President Jim Fedie nominated Joan Bugni to fill his shoes.

The board unanimously approved the nominations, with individuals abstaning from voting for themselves, Superintendent Susan Tollefson said Tuesday.

The board welcomed newly elected member Ed Gransell, and with his consent, assigned him to the Extra-Curricular and Educational Resources committees to replace Eva Hatfield who declined to run for re-election.

In other news, the board got some money for books. For the third year in a row, alumnus Mary Bucklin donated $2,000 to the library.

In other action, the board accepted the resignation of fourth-grade teacher Janel Summers, effective Jan. 22, and extended Jamie Lanczy’s elementary special education position through the school year.
