Lake Linden OKs music festival

Garrett Neese/Daily Mining Gazette Jerry Mitchell of Copper Island Productions speaks to the Lake Linden Village Council about a music festival to be held in Lake Linden from June 22-24.

LAKE LINDEN – The Lake Linden Village Council Thursday approved providing a site for a three-day music festival near the village campgrounds in June.

Jerry Mitchell of Copper Island Productions presented the plan for the festival, which is scheduled for June 22-24.

“I think it would be a great thing for this area,” he said. “All the local businesses will do really well, and hopefully the Village of Lake Linden will make some money too.”

Mitchell said he wold try to attract a mix of classic rock bands such as Canned Heat and Steppenwolf along with local artists and bands appealing to a younger audience..

“If there’s somebody they like, they will always show up,” he said.

Mitchell said the village could make $7,000 between ticket sales and campground sales, and would also get a vending booth at the festival.

“Local business owners will do well,” he said. “If we get 5,000 people that are there, it will be a busy weekend for Lake Linden.”

The site will have $10 tent sites near the campground’s rustic area. The music stage would be oriented toward the water to prevent noise spillover toward the village.

Mitchell said ticket prices would be between $80 to $100 for a three-day ticket, $70 for two days and $40 for one. About 50 percent of revenue would go to the artists and investors, Mitchell said. Staging lights, soundsystem, insurance, advertising, catering, security, trailers and more would account for another 25 to 30 percent.

“I don’t have a problem going ahead with something as long as we’re provided with insurance holding us harmless for this thing,” said Councilman James Aittama.
