UPWARD announces new COO

ESCANABA – The UPWARD Talent Council recently announced that Cherilynn Lampinen has become Chief Operations Officer for the Upper Peninsula workforce development agency. As a workforce development leader in the Upper Peninsula, Lampinen brings to the position a proven record of success in leading disciplined, high performance teams focused on driving economic growth and prosperity.

“Cherilynn Lampinen brings the perspective of a business owner, along with the experience of working in positions of increasing authority with Michigan Works! in the Upper Peninsula since 2009,” said Orrin Bailey, CEO, UPWARD Talent Council. “Over the past three years she has transformed the Michigan Works! structure and operations in the six counties in the western Upper Peninsula, increasing efficiency in serving their businesses. Now, with COO responsibilities for 15 counties, UPWARD Talent Council is excited to have her experience to focus on a U.P.-wide transformation of the Michigan Works! structure and culture in serving all Upper Peninsula businesses.”

Lampinen was born and raised in Chassell and attended Michigan Technological University where she graduated with a bachelor of science in social sciences and earned Michigan teaching certification in social studies and mathematics. She has worked in workforce development, literacy, and adult education for the past 14 years. Lampinen’s family has been small business owners for over 40 years.
