Redistricting town hall at PLDL

The Portage Lake District Library will host a Town Hall meeting on congressional redistricting in Michigan on Saturday, March 11, from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Members of the group Count MI Vote, in partnership with Voters Not Politicians, invite the public for an education and policy discussion about redistricting in Michigan. They will facilitate a conversation around what a proposed new system for redistricting could look like. The public will have their ideas heard, their questions answered, and their input used to draft a petition that reflects the will of Michigan voters on the 2018 ballot.

Partisan redistricting, also known as gerrymandering, is the process of manipulating district boundaries to benefit a political party.

Count MI Vote is a group of Michigan residents who believe that democracy works best when everyone’s vote counts. They are the leading grassroots organization that supports the Voters Not Politicians Ballot Committee. Their joint objective is ending political gamesmanship in the drawing of legislative and congressional boundaries in Michigan.

This is a non-partisan event that welcomes all Michigan residents. For more information, visit www.countmivote.org and www.votersnotpoliticians.com/Learn-more.

All library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. For more information please call the library at 482-4570.
