LAKE LINDEN — Families with young children are welcome to participate in weekly Playtime in the Park activities.

Sponsored by the Keweenaw Family Resource Center (KFRC) and the Baraga-Houghton-Keweenaw Child Development Board, the playgroup meets from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays at various parks in Houghton County.

“Mainly it’s about the parents and children building relationships,” said KFRC Director Iola Brubaker. “That’s important. It helps families be more resilient and stronger in the long run.”

The group met Wednesday at the Lake Linden Park, where KFRC staff set up an obstacle course and outdoor games for children to enjoy.

Playtime in the Park will be at the Chassell Park on July 12, Centennial School Park on July 19 and Hancock Beach on July 26.

“It’s pretty relaxed and informal,” Brubaker saidd, adding KFRC serves snacks at about 11 a.m. each week.

Brubaker and KFRC Program Assistant Andra Ziemnick said the activities are planned for children 0-4 years old, but older children are welcome.

“In the summertime, when the older kids are out of school, this is perfect,” Brubaker said.
