Sticking with a plan that continues to work out: Keweenaw County Board renews positions for 2018

Graham Jaehnig/Daily Mining Gazette Don Piche, long-time member of the Keweenaw County Board, was elected to again serve as board chairman at the annual organizational meeting held Wednesday evening.

EAGLE RIVER — No changes were made to positions on the Keweenaw County Board of Commissioners for the upcoming year at Wednesday’s organizational meeting, which took place at the courthouse in Eagle River, preceding the regular monthly meeting of the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge Board.

Don Piche was elected unanimously to serve as chairman after a motion made by board member Bob DeMarois, and supported by Sandra Gayk.

Gayk then nominated DeMarois for vice chairman.

“Well, Bob’s been doing it,” she said, “so I move that Bob continues as our vice chairman.”

There were no other nominations, and DeMarois was elected unanimously.

At the meeting, the dates and times for the regular monthly meetings were also set, and will remain on the third Wednesday of every month, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Keweenaw County Courthouse.
