HOUGHTON — Usually held in Marquette, the Christian Motorcycle Association’s Upper Peninsula chapter’s spring motorcycle rally is coming to Houghton this year.

The U.P. CMA Seasons of Refreshing will be held March 16-17 at the Houghton Baptist Church.

The event will include worship music, games and other events.

Registration starts at 4 p.m. Friday, with service beginning at 7 p.m. A Friday evening pizza party fellowship will follow the service.

Saturday, service starts at 9 a.m. There will also be a fellowship luncheon at the church.

“It’s just a time to get together and get excited about the riding season,” said Terry Sayatovich, CMA state co-coordinator for the Upper Peninsula along with her husband, Jim.

Being March in the U.P., rides aren’t scheduled, Sayatovich said. But the CMA does plenty of that in the rest of the year, including a state rally Aug. 24 in Crystal Falls.

“Our goal is obviously to reach people for Christ, so we go to a lot of the secular rallies in the U.P., state, Sturgis,” she said. “We do a lot of bike blessings and just spread the word of Christ. Helping people when they need help, whatever comes our way.”

Other events include a color tour in September and a new four-wheel ride from Hancock to Copper Harbor in September.

The group also participates in other events, such as doing security for last weekend’s Snowmobile Hill Climb or riding in the annual Ride for Abuse to protest domestic violence.

“We just try to get involved in whatever people call and ask us to do,” she said.

Sayatovich and her husband joined after a mission team rode up to her church to help with a building project. When she and her husband rode up on motorcycles, the CMA members asked them if they’d heard of it.

“It’s worldwide, and the work they do is phenomenal,” Sayatovich said. “We started going to the rallies and the functions and they became family. It’s a way to spread the word of God. You do by example. People see your heart and it’s amazing. You be who you are, and people want to be part of it.”

The event will be held at the Houghton Baptist Church, located at 2801 W. Sharon Ave.

The preregistration deadline is Friday. Prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Guests are free.

On-site registration, prices rise to $15 for adults and $7.50 for children (ages 4 to 17).

The pizza party fellowship is $5 per person.

Registration forms can be mailed to Joe livermore, 8033 Pine St., Germfask, MI 49836.
