HOUGHTON — With more than a month to go before the filing deadline for August primaries, several candidates have filed for Houghton County races.

In Houghton County Board races, Republican Commissioner Tom Tikkanen is running in District 1. In District 2, Republican Commissioner Al Koskela is running against Democratic challenger Melissa Davis. Democrat Gretchen Janssen is running in District 4.

In Laird Township, Republican Brian Wilder has filed for supervisor.

The filing deadline for partisan and nonpartisan races is 4 p.m. April 24. Forms should be filed with the county clerk for county-wide races, or the village, city or township in which the candidate is running.

A special election will also be held on May 8 for a Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools millage. The district is seeking 18.043 mills for the five-year renewal of operating millage and .1326 mills for five years to restore the amount lost through the Headlee reduction, which rolls back millages to counteract rises in tax revenue.

Voters must register at least 30 days before elections.
