BARAGA — The Baraga County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a garden tour at 4 p.m. on July 27.

“This is our first, and hopefully annual, Garden Tour,” Debbie Stouffer, chamber president, said.

The chamber hopes to attract guests that might not be interested in other community events they host.

The tour passes through four private gardens and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community’s Biodome, maintained by the Natural Resources Department(NRD). The biodome is used to foster plants for NRD restoration projects, including edible healing plants. The private gardens contain plant-covered trellises, rock gardens, fruit trees, ponds and more.

“With the purchase of a ticket comes a map of the five gardens,” Stouffer said.

Refreshments and door prizes are also available, and the gardens will have local artists and musicians performing within them. The gardeners will also be on-hand to answer questions.

“If you’re not a gardener, it’s a chance to just spend a pleasant evening outdoors,” Stouffer said.

Expect about 25 miles of driving between the gardens, according to Stouffer. Tickets are $10 and are available online at baragacounty.org, at the chamber office, at Baraga visitor’s bureau and at the L’Anse and Baraga branches of Superior National Bank. They’ll also be available at the gardens on the day of the event. Information can be found on the chamber’s event calendar at baragacounty.org.
