Houghton sets fall cleanup
HOUGHTON — Houghton’s fall cleanup will take place from Sept. 24 to Oct. 26. Dumpsters are available seven days a week at the City Garage at the corner of Technical Avenue and Gundlach Road.
Materials allowed are wood (under 4 feet), brick and metal (place in specially labeled dumpster).
Not allowed are furniture, clothes, tires, cardboard, paint and empty cans, house garbage or lightbulbs of any type.
From May through November the city accepts leaves, small branches and yard clippings.
There are two dedicated areas on the east side of the city salt storage building. One is for leaves and lawn waste. The other is for branches and tree trimming waste. Please follow the signs.
For residents 65 years or older, or handicapped residents, the city will pick the items up at their residence if they call ahead and provide their name and address. Items may not be left at the curb side. They must keep it on their property until the city can pick it up.
People wanting to put their names on the list can call 482-1700. Items will be picked up on Oct. 12 and Oct. 26.
