Kearsarge fire damages building: No injuries in afternoon blaze

Graham Jaehnig/Daily Mining Gazette Minor damage was reported at a structure fire Thursday afternoon in the rear wall of Royale Fabricating in Kearsarge in Calumet Township.

CALUMET TOWNSHIP — No injuries were reported in a minor structure fire that occurred at a locally owned business in Kearsarge.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. the Calumet Township Fire Department responded to Royale Fabricating, Welding and Engineering in response to fire in the rear wall of the building.

Mike Phillips of the CTFD said the cause of the fire is not known at this time, but the damage was minor and no injuries were reported.

“They (employees) were grinding and welding in the area, and fire got in the wall, and that’s all,” Phillips said. “But I just got here, so I don’t know too much, either.”

Employees were not willing to speak to the Daily Mining Gazette, and the owner of the business could not be located for comment.
