ONTONAGON — A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of M-64 and Rockland Street resulted in three injured and a partial road closure that lasted three hours.

Failing to yield, a 2004 F-250 driven by a 68-year old Bruce Crossing woman struck a westbound Sanimax dump truck causing it to roll, depositing its load of old produce onto M-64.

The 53-year-old dump truck driver out of Franken, Wisconsin, was transported to Aspirus Hospital in Ontonagon for treatment, the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post reported. The pickup driver was also transported to Aspirus along with her passenger.

The passenger, a 75-year-old Ewen woman, was later flown to Aspirus hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin.

With a top-heavy load, the dump truck likely did not take much force to flip, said MSP Sgt. James Revoyr.

The dump truck was traveling from the Houghton Walmart to the Ironwood location using a detour when the accident occurred.

The scene took close to three hours to clear bringing traffic down to one alternating lane and remains under investigation as of Wednesday, Revoyr said.

Responding agencies included the Ontonagon County Sheriff, Sonoco Ambulance, the Ontonagon Village Fire Department, Dishaw Towing and Superior Service Towing.
