Raising funds, food for those in dire need

ONTONAGON — The Wakefield post of the Michigan State Police (MSP) has raised more than $4,200 and more than 27,000 pounds of food for area food banks in partnership with local businesses as part of their annual Harvest Gathering Campaign.

In partnership with Pat’s Foods and other businesses in the Ontonagon area, just over $3,000 was raised for the St. Nicholas Project. Shoppers were given a chance to donate at the register and Pat’s Foods matched up to $500.

Employees of Pat’s Foods also made a donation out of their Friday Jean Day Fund.

In Bruce Crossing, MSP partnered with Settler’s Co-op to raise $1,220 for the South Ontonagon food pantry, with a $500 donation from Settler’s itself.
