Finn film kicks off Heikinpaiva

The Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center resumes Jan. 10 with a Finnish documentary to kick off the 2019 Heikinpaiva festival.

“Hobbyhorse Revolution,” a 2017 film, will show at 2 and 6 p.m. Jan. 10.

The film’s theme focuses on the power of imagination and the strength of community. The film follows three young girls, Aisku, Elsa and Alisa, whose lives have been transformed by their new interest: hobbyhorses. Despite a lack of understanding by some, the girls bravely and spiritedly pursue their hobby.

Playing with hobbyhorses is a traditional children’s activity, but today’s Finnish teenagers have created a versatile hobby around it, raising the scene to a whole new level.
