Snowmobiler hurt on Schoolcraft trail
LAKE LINDEN — An Ohio man was injured in a snowmobile crash Wednesday evening in Schoolcraft Township.
The 65-year-old Ohio man was traveling northwest on the Sawmill Road about 6:55 p.m. Wednesday when he failed to make a lefthand turn and crashed into a group of trees, the Michigan State Police Calumet post said in a release.
The man was ejected from the snowmobile. He was unable to stand or walk after suffering injuries to his leg and hip. He called for medical assistance from his cell phone.
Bootjack first responders transported him from the crash site and turned him over to Mercy EMS personnel.
They took him to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
Speed was not a factor, troopers said; neither were alcohol or drugs.
Factors believed to be responsible for the crash are unfamiliarity with the trail and the man overdriving his capabilities.
