Clarice M. Norgard

HANCOCK – Clarice M. Norgard, 88, of Hancock, passed away at PortagePointe on Monday, December 29, 2014 following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Ripley on September 6, 1926 to the late Peter and Ellen (Walman) Ebert. She graduated from Houghton High School in 1944. She later graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1948, working as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Hancock and also worked as a private duty nurse.

On September 2, 1950 she married Norman Norgard. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1988.

Clarice was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hancock where she also belonged to the United Methodist Women and the Tuesday morning Bible Study, and taught Sunday school for many years. She also was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps near the end of World War II.

Besides her husband and parents; she was also preceded in death by brothers, Peter Ebert and Robert Ebert; and a grandson, Joseph McDonald.

She is survived by three sons, Paul, Peter, and David of Hancock; two daughters, Karen (Donald) McDonald of Laingsburg, Michigan and Gina Norgard of Oyster Bay, New York; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Hancock with Rev. Mary Laub to officiate.

Spring burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:30 time of services.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Alzeheimer’s Association or the First United Methodist Church in the name of Clarice Norgard.

Clarice was an avid reader and loved container gardening.

She enjoyed music, especially classical. She also shared her home with her beloved cats.
