Norman B. Dulong

RIPLEY – Norman B. Dulong, 91, a long-time resident of Ripley, died Friday, January 22, 2016.

He was born December 1, 1924, in Hubbell, Michigan, a son of the late Eldred and LaNelda (King) Dulong.

Norman attended the St. Cecilia Catholic School and the Lake Linden-Hubbell High School.

In his teen years, Norman was employed at Pello Roofing in Marquette. Later, he worked for 43 years at Horner Flooring Company in Dollar Bay, retiring in 1988.

Norman married the former Elsie M. Talso on April 16, 1946, in Houghton. The couple raised five children. Elsie passed away on September 26, 2006.

Norman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock. He loved gardening and did it for years. He played baseball and hockey and loved to fish. Norman was a regular customer at Tina’s Katalina Restaurant in South Range where he enjoyed having lunch and visiting with the other patrons. He was a fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. He loved hard work and was a good supportive loving husband and father.

Norman is survived by his children, Norman (Delores) Dulong of Cedar Springs, Georgia, Bruce (Merle) Dulong of Ripley, Helen Kaipio of Vancouver, Washington, David Dulong of Ripley, and Sandra Maki of Dollar Bay; 8 granddaughters; 1 grandson, 23 great-grandchildren;2 great-great-grandchildren;a sister, Gloria (Ray) Karvonen of Atlantic Mine; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents and wife, Norman was also preceded in death by three brothers, Weldon, Paul Marvin and Eldred “Bud”; and two sisters, Eileen Andrews and Therese Dimet.

Norman’s wishes were to be cremated. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
