Ann ‘Ree’ Newman Schafer
LAURIUM – Ann “Ree” Newman Schafer, 64, passed away on Saturday April 2, 2016, following a lengthy illness.
Ann attended Calumet High School and graduated with the class of 1969.
She moved to Santa Rosa, California, and married the late Fred Schafer. They moved to Calumet to be with family in 1983.
Ann was a daycare provider and took care of many special nieces, nephews and children of friends. Ann had a “heart of gold” and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; his daughter, Pam Schafer; and her father, William Newman.
Surviving are her mother, Ann Newman; stepdaughters, Betty and Christina; and her step granddaughter, Debbie (David) Jarve and their children, Carl, Maija, Michael and Karen; and a step-grandson Devin Schafer. She is also survived by her siblings, Bill (Carrie) Newman, Sherry (Bob) Hansen, Valerie (Mike) Teddy, Paula (Denny) McKaig, Gerard (Chris) Newman, James (Kari) Newman, Nikki (Pete) Alger and Eric (Matt) Newman; special friend, Todd Taskila; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are invited for visitation at the Ryan Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A private funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Deacon Art Stancher to officiate.
