Janie M. Kommes
PORTAGE TOWNSHIP – Janie M. Kommes, 63, a resident of Portage Township, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Omega House.
She was born on September 8, 1952, in Detroit, a daughter of Michael and Freda (Geborkoff) Bukovich and was a 1970 graduate of the Jeffers High School.
Surviving are her husband, Alfred “Al” Kommes, of Portage Township; children, Chad, of Champion, Kris (Ashley) of Neenah, Wisconsin, Robin (Nathan) of Marquette and Kelly (Shawn) of Gladstone; her mother, Freda, of Houghton; brothers, Mark (Jen) of Hancock and Jack “Jocko” (Jen) of Painesdale; sisters, Michele (Jim) Michaelson, of Tapiola, and Karen Jolley, of Painesdale; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and her special Zumba exercise friends.
Janie was preceded in death by her father, Michael; and brothers, David, Michael “Bobo” and Joe.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff at UP Health System-Portage, Bell and Marquette, Aspirus, UP Home Health Care and Hospice and the Omega House for the care given to Janie.
According to Janie’s wishes, private graveside services will be held this spring at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, the family wishes memorials to the charity of one’s choice in the name of Janie M. Kommes.
