John M. Kastelic
LAURIUM – John M. Kastelic, 97, a resident of Laurium passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, April 15, 2016, at Our Lady of Mercy Health and Rehab in Hubbell.
He was born on January 15, 1919, to Matt and Gertrude (Lukon) Kastelic in Calumet. He attended Calumet High School and graduated with the Class of 1937.
After high school, John enlisted with the United States Army, and served during World War II.
Following his service, he worked in the lumberyards for both Armstrong Theilman Lumberyard and retired from 41 Lumber in Laurium.
On July 12, 1941, he married Geraldine Holland in Calumet at St. Joseph’s Church. Geraldine preceded in him death on April 16, 1997.
John was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, the Croatian Lodge and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3900 in Calumet.
John is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his children, John Paul (Marliyn) Kastelic of Sherman Township, Robert (Shirley) Kastelic of Traprock Valley; five grandchildren, Roger (Lauretta) Kastelic of Palm City, Florida, Kurt (Margaret) Kastelic of Rochester, Craig (Kelly) Kastelic of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Jennifer (Frank) Kreuger of Grand Rapids, Brian (Jamie) Kastelic of St. Joseph; 10 great- grandchildren; special friend, Dorothy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
