John Paul Ruohoniemi

CALUMET – John Paul Ruohoniemi, 74, passed away at his home in Calumet on Monday, April 4, 2016.

John was born in 1942, in Cloquet, Minnesota. He grew up and graduated from high school in Eveleth, Minnesota.

He graduated from St. Olaf College in 1964, and Mankato State University in 1968.

He was employed as the Director of Admissions at St. Olaf College for many years, prior to moving to Calumet.

He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church of Calumet.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mathias and Martha (Kananen) Ruohoniemi; and several aunts and uncles.

John is survived by Linda Ruohoniemi, of Marquette; his two daughters, Jane (Ted) Streitz, of Northfield, Minnesota, and Sara Wallner, of Negaunee. He is also survived by his two sons, Jon, of San Diego, California, and Michael, of Calumet; five grandchildren, Thomas and Rachel Streitz, and Ethan, Amara and Kaylen Wallner.

Burial will take place in the spring at Lake View Cemetery in Calumet at a private family service.

The family would suggest memorial gifts in John’s name directed to Faith Lutheran Church, Furnace Replacement Fund, P.O. Box 523, Calumet, 49913.
