Renee Rock Marion

SOUTH RANGE – Renee Rock Marion, a resident of South Range, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2016, with family by her side at the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor.

She was born on October 3, 1959, the middle child of James and Bernice (Kemppainen) Rock of Baraga.

After graduating from Baraga High School in 1977, she was chosen to tour Europe with the United States Collegiate Wind Band.

On returning from the tour, she married the love of her life, Gene Marion, on May 12, 1978.

She attended and graduated from Northern Michigan University, she also attended and graduated from Michigan Technological University with a degree in electronic communications and worked there for several years and also worked for the BHK Child Development Board.

Renee was multi-talented including photography and played several musical instruments.

She loved music, even organizing music workshops and promoting the annual Agate Beach Jamboree.

She had a great love for the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing, motor cycle riding, hunting, rock hunting and shooting pool.

Later in life, Renee met Dennis Puuri, with whom she had two beautiful children, Sara and Carter, who she loved dearly and was so proud of.

She was preceded in death by her father; several cousins, including Randy Rock “Newt,” who she had a special bond with.

Renee is survived by her mother; sisters, Connie (Alvin) Mueller, Lori Morin and Carol (Bill) Boever; brother, Steven Rock; aunt, Dolly Ensign; uncle, Ed Rock; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services for Renee will be held Friday, April 22, 2016, at St. Peter St. Paul Lutheran Church in Houghton starting at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service.

A celebration of Renee’s life will be held at Agate Beach this summer and will be announced at a later date.
