Virginia K. Rosseau

HANCOCK – Virginia K. Rosseau, 89, of Hancock, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

She was born on October 27, 1926, in Verona, Italy to the late Giuseppe and Emma (Lincastro) Magaraggia. She came with her family to this country as an infant and attended Stambaugh Schools.

On June 25, 1949, she married Oliver J. Rosseau in Iron River, living most of their married lives in Hancock.

She worked as a cashier and a waitress at the Douglass House and Onigaming Supper Club. Later, she was a breakfast hostess at the Super 8 Motel in Houghton until she retired. She always maintained her sense of humor throughout her life.

Virginia was a member of the Church of the Resurrection of Hancock, the Daughters of Italy and the Alfred Erickson Post 186 American Legion Auxiliary of Hancock. She was also a member of the Houghton County Democratic Party and was awarded the Houghton County Democrat of the Year.

Besides her parents; she was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, James Letto; and by her sisters, Margaret, Zira, and Flo.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Oliver J. Rosseau of Hancock; children, Linda Letto of Hancock, William (Lisa) Rosseau of L’Anse, Nancy Rosseau of Perry, Utah, and JoAnn (Patrick) Rouleau of Hancock; her loving grandchildren, Jimmy O., Lauren, Billy (Alison), Jeff (Kristin), Daniel (Stacy) and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Curtis, Olletta, Nell, Evyn, Jackson, Kennedy, Hayden and Annalise; a brother, Larry (Merce); sisters, Vera, Alice and Mary; a niece, Barb Fisher; as well as many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. Spring burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday before the services.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Hancock Public Schools Foundation, 901 Campus Dr., Hancock, 49930 in the name of Virginia Rosseau.

The family would like to thank the staff on the second floor of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility for the kind and compassionate care given to her.
