Wesley Jacob Kahkonen

MOUNT PLEASANT – Wesley Jacob Kahkonen, 78, of Mount Pleasant, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, with his best friend and pet Sam by his side.

Wesley was born July 11, 1937, in Oskar, to Arvid and Ester (Rouhonen) Kahkonen.

He served in the Army from 1954 to 1957.

On January 31, 1971, he married Carole May Virtonen and was employed as a truck driver for over 50 years. He enjoyed his work and would proudly exclaim driving over three million miles as a trucker.

Wesley was passionate about hunting and his yearly trips to deer camp with his family.

He enjoyed watching sports, fishing, camping and being at family gatherings.

Wesley is survived by his children, Kim (Dennis) Alvarado of Chicago, John (Deb) Makela of Midland, Karen (Kyle) LaCross of Alma, Kelly (Brian) Manley of Lake Isabella, Mike (Kim) Makela of Mount Pleasant, Kim Makela of Mount Pleasant; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Wesley is preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Loukka; his brother, Bill Kahkonen; and his greatest passion in life, his wife, Carole.

Funeral services for Wesley will be Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd with Donald Mader officiating.

There will be visitation on Friday, April 8, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
