Laurie Jane Clark

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Laurie Jane Clark, 77, of Syracuse, died peacefully on April 21, 2016, at home surrounded by family.

She was born September 26, 1938, in Houghton, to parents Robert and Gloria (O’Rourke) Smith. She was a graduate of Houghton High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Hancock, later receiving a BS from Syracuse University School of Nursing. She worked many nursing jobs over the years.

She lived in Syracuse since 1974 and has been an extraordinary volunteer in the community. Serving most notably as past president and board member of the University Hospital Auxiliary, board member of the Syracuse Stage Guild, Syracuse Symphony Association and the Everson Museum members council. She was a very active member of the Syracuse Garden Club, the Green Lakes Ladies 18 hole league and several beloved bridge groups. She was also an avid reader, gardener, skier, golfer, bridge player and yoga practitioner. She loved the outdoors, long walks, hiking and kayaking in the Adirondacks.

Laurie was an adored mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and treasured friend to many, she will be greatly missed.

She is predeceased by husbands, L. Jon Caspary and Dr. William R. Clark.

She is survived by her four children and six grandchildren, Michael (Carol) Caspary of Grass Valley, California, Jeffrey (Britt) Caspary and their daughter Poppy of Petaluma, California, Beth (William) Davis and their children, Sarah and Mia of Liverpool, New York, Kathryn (Dylan) Dearborn and their children Layla, Lucy and Seth of Fort Collins, Colorado; brothers, Robert Smith, Roger Smith; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial mass will be held Friday, May 6, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 4112 East Genesee Street, Dewitt, NY.

A calling hour will precede the mass from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
