Alden J. “Hank” Norkol

HANCOCK CANAL – Alden J. “Hank” Norkol, 78, a resident of the Hancock Canal, passed away on Sunday evening, October 16, 2016, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he had been a resident for the past year.

He was born on January 27, 1938, in Hancock, a son of the late Raymond and Amelia (Mattila) Norkol. Hank was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1956.

Mr. Norkol had served with the United States Army Reserves for a number of years.

Alden had worked locally as a concrete mason and carpenter before working as a machinist for Calumet Machine, where he retired from as a foreman.

On July 20, 1963, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Solmonson.

Mr. Norkol was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock and had played for the Portage Lake Pioneers as a young man. He was a very handy man who was able to build his own home along with the cabinetry.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brother, Ronald.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Norkol of the Hancock Canal; his daughter, Lisa (Steve) Gracik of Elk River, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Dylan and Shelby Gracik of Elk River, Minnesota; his brother, Robert (Vi) Norkol of Hancock Canal; and his nephews, John, Jerry, Dave, Dan and Derek.

A memorial service for Hank will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. DJ Rasner to officiate. Interment will be in the Gloria Dei Columbarium in Hancock.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 20, 2016, from 12 p.m. until the time of services at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.
