Kenneth Sturos

CALUMET – Kenneth Sturos, 73, of Calumet, passed away at home on Thursday, November 3, 2016.

Ken was born to Carl and Edna (Bradshaw) Sturos on August 8, 1943, in Detroit. He went to Southfield High School and graduated with the class of 1961.

After high school he was united in marriage to Marcella Anderson on August 11, 1962, in the old First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Calumet on Pine Street.

He was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Calumet.

After marriage the couple moved out to Minnesota for a few years returning to the Detroit area in 1963. Where Ken worked for Ford Motor Company until he got a job with the Southfield Fire Department in 1965. He worked for the Southfield Fire Department for many years retiring on September 26, 1989.

After being retired for a few years they moved to the U.P. and Ken took up a job doing photography for the Daily Mining Gazette, where he was the Chief Photographer for a few years.

Ken was a sports enthusiast, he loved baseball and hockey. He played hockey in the over 30 league for many years up until he had to have his hip replaced in the year 2000. He also coached hockey in his free time.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; father; mother-in-law; brother, Gordon; brothers-in-law, Howard Pennala and Bruce Paakola; nephews, Brad Paakola and Evan Anderson.

Surviving are his wife, Marcella; sons, Aaron (Janet) Sturos of South Lyon, Nathan (Jennifer) Sturos of South Lyon, Jason Sturos of Belleville, Mathew (Halea) Sturos of Mary Esther, Florida; and daughter, Lisa Sturos of South Lyon; brother, Carl Earland (Sharon) Sturos of Portland, Oregon; sisters, Sheryle (Randall) Raisanen of Scottsdale, Arizona; Carolyn Paakola of Beach Park, Illinois; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will take place at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Calumet on Monday, November 7, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Calumet at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior starting at 10 a.m.
