James Harrison Geiger

CALUMET – James Harrison Geiger, 87, a resident of Calumet, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.

He was born on December 29, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to Clarence and Mae (Kingston) Geiger.

He attended Calumet High School, and graduated with the Class of 1948.

On June 20, 1952, he married Lois Niemi at the Carmel Lutheran Church in Calumet.

After high school, Jim worked as a journeyman electrician from 1948 to 1954. He then went to work for the State of Michigan as a Construction Technician for 30 years, retiring in 1984.

While working for the State of Michigan, he and his wife Lois purchased Calumet Floral in 1976. He spent many hours working in the store when he found the time. Together he and Lois retired from the flower shop in 1989.

Jim was a hard worker. He always had to be busy working on something.

He also loved his family. He loved to spend time with his children, grandchild and great-grandchild.

Jim was a lifetime member of the Calumet Elks Lodge #404.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mae; and his sister, Shirley Geiger-Stenson.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Geiger of Calumet; sons, Bill (Joni) Geiger of Calumet and Scott (Angie) Geiger of Pleasant Lake; one granddaughter, Nancy (Justin) Riopelle of Hancock; one great-grandson, Marcus Riopelle; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per Jim’s request, private family services were held.
