Jane Louise Jordon

COLE CREEK ROAD – Jane Louise Jordon, 61, of Cole Creek Road near Atlantic Mine, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the Omega House in Houghton.

She was born on November 11, 1955, in Port Huron, to the late William and Alice Smiley.

She graduated from Port Huron Northern High School in 1973, later attending Michigan Tech.

She has lived in the Hancock and Atlantic Mine areas since 1973.

She waitressed at restaurants such as the Summer Place, Gino’s and the Consumer Advocate. She also worked at the Portage Mini Mart, worked for a local snack vending service and checked passengers in at the Houghton County Memorial Airport. She worked as a mail carrier for 14 years in Hancock for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2010.

Jane loved to work jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed reading. She raised many boxers, her favorite breed of dog. She enjoyed the Copper Country and spending time with her family and many friends, sometimes taking long drives with them into the Keweenaw.

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Al Kiest.

She is survived by her siblings, Linda Kiest of Kalamazoo, Michael (Kathleen) Smiley of Hakalau, Hawaii and Patricia Smiley and husband William Miles of Easton, Pennsylvania; nephews, Noah Smiley and Timothy Miles; a niece, Sarah Smiley; an aunt, Helen Perkins; a cousin, Gail (Tom) Nichols; and by many friends.

As requested by Jane, cremation will take place with her family having a private gathering and time of remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Omega House, 2211 Maureen Lane, Houghton, 49931, would be appreciated  in the name of Jane Jordon.
