Hilda Salo
FULTON – Hilda Salo, 97, of Fulton, passed away at home on Sunday, February 19, 2017.
She was born in Traprock Valley on November 15, 1919, a daughter of the late Andrew and Johanna (Waara) Pelli and attended the local schools.
Hilda was united in marriage to Ahti Salo on February 9, 1946, and he preceded her in death in December of 2000.
She worked many jobs throughout the years, one of them being the manager at Apostolic Lutheran Home for the Aged.
Hilda liked to sew, pick blueberries and to fish on the “Big Lake” out of Lac La Belle. She was also a good baker and cook as well. She was known for her cheese, and also for her pasties that she would bake for many different people.
She was involved for years in the Women’s Auxiliary at the American Legion Post 230 and was a member of the Fulton Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and all of her eleven siblings.
Surviving are daughters, Emilie Salo of Mohawk, and Laura (James Vassal) Salo of Ann Arbor; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 4 p.m. at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor David Taivalkoski officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home starting at 2 p.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow at the Siskiwit Reception Hall.
Spring burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
