Robert J. Waltanen

DODGEVILLE – Robert J. Waltanen, 67, a resident of Dodgeville, passed away late Tuesday evening, February 21, 2017, at the UP Health Systems-Marquette Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past week.

He was born on December 10, 1949, in Hancock, a son of the late Eino and Ann (Paskvan) Waltanen.

Robert was raised in Dodgeville and was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1968. He then attended Michigan Technological University, where he received his civil engineering degree and business engineering degree.

Mr. Waltanen remained in the area and worked as an independent Surveyor while he helped care for his mother.

Robert was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton. He enjoyed skiing in the winters and riding his bike in the summers.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his sister, Jeanette Morales.

Surviving are his sister, Mary Margaret Yageman of Farmington; three nieces, one nephew and several cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton with Fr. Corbin Eddy to celebrate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.

Friends may call on Friday, February 24, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Plowe Funeral Home of Houghton where a Rosary will be held at 7 p.m.

In lieu of other expressons of sympathy, the family suggests that memorial be given to Arthritus National Research Foundation curearthritis.org/honorary -gifts in memory of Robert J. Waltanen.
