Ruth S. (Bammert) Karpinen
HOUGHTON — Ruth S. (Bammert) Karpinen, 87, of Madison Heights and the Bluffs, died in her sleep March 26, 2017, surrounded by family.
She was born in Allouez Township on July 15, 1929, daughter of the late Rueben and Ina (Soivio) Bammert.
Ruth was a 1947 graduate of the Calumet High School. Following graduation, Ruth moved to Detroit, where she worked at Michigan Bell.
Ruth married the late Kenneth Karpinen in 1951.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Karpinen of Ontonagon, Sharon Karpinen (Lawrence) Wall of Houghton; two sons, Robert Karpinen of Rochester Hills, Steven Karpinen and his wife, Amy (Gentile) of Troy; six grandchildren, Kenneth, Kirsti and Laura Wall, Tiffany Karpinen (Drew) Knobloch, Christopher (Kirsten) Karpinen and Kevin Karpinen; three great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Leah Karpinen and Bryson Knobloch; brothers and sisters, Dorothy (Clement) Beaudoin, Barbara (Erland) Lahnala, Gordon (Rosemarie) Bammert, William (Nancy) Bammert, Joseph (Barbara) Bammert, Kenneth Bammert, Richard (Pat) Bammert; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, who died in 2008; a daughter, Nancy Karpinen, who died in 2006; daughter-in-law, Emerita Karpinen; a brother, Reuben Bammert; and sister and brother-in-law, Fay and Waino Kuitinen.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 21, 2017, from 10:30 a.m until 11:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range, followed by a graveside service at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
