Jon Arne ‘Digger’ Kauppi
DETROIT — Jon Arne “Digger” Kauppi, 73, was called away August 4, 2017, in Detroit.
He was born in South Range, on December 12, 1944, to John Eric and Dorothy (Olson) Kauppi.
His father was a basketball athlete and died at the age of 24 from spinal meningitis. John grew up in Detroit and attended the Naval Annapolis Academy but did not complete his studies. He served an eight-year Reserve obligation.
Jon worked in Mortuary Science and was a fire marshal in South Lyon.
He is survived by a cousin and dear friend, James E. Leinonen of Detroit; dear friends; and Elmer R. Liimatta.
His mother, Dorothy Seppamaki Busby preceded him in death.
A graveside burial will be held Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range with the Copper Country Veterans conducting military rites.
