Jacob Edward ‘Ed’ Putkela

HASTINGS — Jacob Edward ‘Ed’ Putkela, 88, of Hastings, passed away on October 20, 2017, at Metro Health Hospital.

He was born in Atlantic Mine, on June 17, 1929, to Jacob and Anna (Hiltunen) Putkela.

Ed spent three years serving in the Army and worked and retired after 37 years from the E.W. Bliss.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending treasured time with his great-grandchildren.

Ed had a way of telling jokes and sharing stories to friends and family. Once you met Ed you always walked away with a smile.

His favorite saying was, “smile it makes people wonder what you’re up to.” That was always the truth with him.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen; daughter, Vicki Burd; sisters, Janet Whinnen, Martha Robleski.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Neta (Henry) Leon; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Eric, Henry, Jonathon; brother, David (Jane) Putkela; sister, Mildred (El-mer) Maki; a very dear special friend, Debi Barton who loved him dearly.

Respecting his wishes cremation has taken place, and no services will be held.

Memorial contributions can be made in Ed’s name to a charity of your choice.
