Jerome ‘Jerry’ Danis

BARAGA — Jerome “Jerry” Danis, 73, passed away on January 6, 2018, at his home in Baraga, after a long illness.

Jerry was born in Laurium, on March 7, 1944. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Danis.

Jerry graduated from Calumet High School in 1961. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force. In 1966 he married the late Patricia Lepisto. In 1981, he married Peggy Tikkanen (Koykka).

Jerry worked for White Pine Copper for 30 years. After the closing of the mine, Jerry and Peggy relocated to Nevada and Colorado. They returned to beautiful Michigan over a year ago, due to his ailing health.

Jerry enjoyed time with his family, playing poker, reading, crossword puzzles and watching the Detroit Lions.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; step-son, Scott (Amy) Tikkanen of Estes Park, Colorado; step-daughter, Amy (Jim) Isaacson of Baraga; his grandchildren, Brady, Joey, Anna and Jenna; great-granddaughter, Kellee; brother, Tony (Marie) Danis of Baraga; sister, Patricia (Tom) Forbes of Longwood, Florida; mother-in-law, Viola Karvakko of Baraga; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Harry) Dompier of Baraga; special nephew, Chad (Donna) Dompier of Ontario, Wisconsin; and several other cousins, nieces and nephews survive.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Patricia; and brothers, Don and Joey.

Per Jerry’s wishes, his body has been donated for science and research purposes.
